Are mesopelagic fish edible?

The question of whether mesopelagic fisheries should be developed is multifaceted. There is a large amount of unexploited fish biomass in the mesopelagic zone. However, are these fish palatable? Do they have a favourable nutritional composition?

As part of our twilight zone initiative, we will be extracting lipids from a variety of mesopelagic fish species. We are interested in how much lipid each fish contains, as well as the masses of omega-3 fatty acids.

Omega-3 fatty acids are essential for the health and development of fish in aquaculture, and they are recognized as important micronutrients for humans.
